Mission
MSIC is an independent, student-run investment club in Munich. Our primary goal is to help our members develop practical investment skills. To apply these skills, members are empowered to research investment opportunities on their own and spearhead them as projects and stock pitches. To ensure the success of our investment strategies and enable our members to succeed in the job market, we also place an emphasis on education and networking. We therein offer a practical education program focused on learning the tools to facilitate investment decisions, such as valuation techniques and investment selection. Furthermore, we connect our members to the financial industry’s experts, thus, preparing them for a career in finance.
Club Structure
MSIC is organized into five divisions. All MSIC members participate in at least one organizational division.
Investing
As conveyed by our mission statement, MSIC’s purpose is centred around students acquiring and applying investment skills. Hence, the Investing Division is at the heart of our club, enabling our members to invest! All club members are encouraged to work in teams of 2-3 to perform company analyses and create stock pitches. Members of the Investing Division evaluate the proposed investment strategies. To ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills to do so, they are required to complete the Analyst Program designed by the Education Division. Additionally, they engage in an ongoing exchange with our Advisory Board in order to analyze and evaluate proposed strategies.
Education
Because knowledge facilitates skill, the Education Division plays a fundamental role in educating our members on all topics revolving around investment. We consider our Education Division to be the building block that helps MSIC’s members master the skill of investing. For this purpose, MSIC’s Education Division takes a practical approach to learning, teaching the club’s members the basics of fundamental analysis and financial modeling. We strongly believe that this hands-on approach to learning investment techniques is preferable and provides new insights in addition to the knowledge gained at the university. For this reason, the Education Division has developed and is continuously enhancing our Analyst Program. The completion of the program is a necessary prerequisite for joining the Investing Division. Besides that, the Education Division keeps in touch with our academic partners to improve and update the Analyst Program, plan sessions together, and clarify any questions.
Member Development
Since our greatest asset is our members, the Member Development Division focuses on the progress of our members’ careers, club responsibilities as well as personal and academic lives. Responsibilities include providing mentorship, organizing internal events and workshops, and opening doors to unique career opportunities.
External Affairs
The External Affairs Division connects MSIC with firm partners and sponsors and thus, enables us to grow. This division is centered around the club’s communication with industry partners and sponsors. Some of the areas of responsibility include maintaining and fostering existing relationships, acquiring new partners and sponsors, and organizing joint events and workshops.
Internal Activities
The Internal Activities Division is essential as it ensures the smooth running of the club. Members in this division engage in financial, HR, IT, legal, and administrative tasks to help MSIC operate as intended. Comprising the club’s main internal processes, some of the areas of responsibility include budgeting, recruiting, assuring compliance with legal requirements, developing the IT infrastructure and administrating MSIC’s members.
